XCMG New Energy "Lights Up" Indonesian Mines: Supporting PT Borneo Indobara Green Transformation with Electric Heavy Equipment

Tanah Bumbu, February 17, 2025 – PT Borneo Indobara (PT BIB) held the Ceremonial Project Sustainable Green Mining at its mining site as a major step towards achieving sustainable mining by introducing electric-powered heavy equipment into its operations. Aligning with this green vision, XCMG participated in the initiative by providing electric vehicle units, which were tested at PT BIB’s mining site. Coinciding with its 19th anniversary, PT BIB reaffirmed its commitment to tackling industry challenges through Electric Heavy Equipment and Trucks as a more environmentally friendly solution.

As part of this project, XCMG supplied several electric heavy equipment units to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of PT BIB’s mining operations. During the handover event, PT BIB representatives expressed their confidence in the collaboration, stating “XCMG stood out among more than ten other brands. Their products and services give us great confidence. We believe that our partnership in low-carbon, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient solutions will reach new heights and achieve even greater success!”

At the event, XCMG also showcased its flagship products, including:

· XT490 TH – 6×4 Electric Tractor Head (5 units)

· XWE105EV – Electric Widebody Truck (1 unit)

· Eco Truck XT 490 DT – 8×4 Electric Dump Truck (5 units)

· XC9108EV – Electric Wheel Loader (1 unit)

· XE215EV – Electric Excavator (1 unit)

PT BIB highlighted that fuel consumption in the mining industry is extremely high, reaching 900,000 liters of diesel per day, which translates to an expenditure of approximately IDR 6 trillion. Therefore, transitioning to electric heavy equipment is seen as a strategic move to reduce operational costs while cutting carbon emissions.

PT BIB’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Raden Utoro, emphasized the increasing complexity of challenges in the mining industry, particularly due to the unpredictable fluctuations in global oil prices. "This step is our response to future challenges. That’s why we are starting to transition to electric heavy equipment and trucks," he stated.

The Future of Green Mining in Indonesia

In his speech, PT BIB’s COO, Raden Utoro, emphasized the importance of collaboration among mining companies in adopting environmentally friendly solutions. "If we don’t adapt and innovate, sooner or later, we will be left behind. Therefore, this project marks a turning point for Indonesia’s mining industry to start transitioning to cleaner and more sustainable energy," he stated.

PT BIB and XCMG are committed to continuously developing innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency and create a greener and more sustainable mining sector. With the government’s removal of fuel subsidies in February, oil-based operational costs have surged, making the shift to electric energy the best solution to tackle future industry challenges.

Through this project, XCMG aims to contribute to the transformation of Indonesia’s mining industry toward a more environmentally friendly and efficient future. With the support of technology and innovation, green mining is no longer just a concept but a realized vision that brings tangible benefits to the environment, society, and industry as a whole.
